Schumer, Gillibrand demand review of RG&E, NYSEG power restoration process

Both of New York's U.S. Senators are demanding a review of the process for restoring power to homes in western and central New York after last week's wind storm.

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand wrote a joint letter Tuesday to the President and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E.

In the letter, they demanded the process of bringing power back on be reviewed, along with transparency about any additional certain steps the companies plan to take when responding to storms.

“We write to express our deep concern over the extended power outages for thousands of New York households following the April 4th high wind storm, as well as concerns we heard from constituents and local officials about a lack of communication, and in some cases miscommunication, from NYSEG," an excerpt from the letter read.

The number of outages peaked at 33,361 customers on the afternoon of April 5 between NYSEG, RG&E and National Grid.
