Sheriff Povero: Busy month of March for law enforcement in Ontario County

Sheriff Philip C. Povero reports the following statistics for the the month of March 2018, from the divisions of the Ontario County Office of Sheriff:

The 9-1-1 Center processed a total of 15280 events, including 7201 events for the sheriff’s office / state police, 1170 calls for emergency medical services, 364 calls for fire departments, 4477 events for the Canandaigua PD and 2068 events for the Geneva PD. Of these calls, 25 calls were requests for emergency services for reported overdoses.

A total of 464 car crashes were responded to during the month, including 43 crashes with injury, 170 property damage only crashes, 133 vehicles in ditches, 12 rollover crashes, 20 hit and runs and 86 car-deer collisions. The OCSO K-9 unit reported 40 calls for service during the month, to include drug searches, tracks, presentations to the public and assists to other agencies. Deputies assigned to Eastview Mall responded to a total of 180 calls for service at the mall and reported 20 arrests, stolen property valued at $4566.66 was recovered. The civil office made 267 service attempts and served 223 papers. Among the papers served, 20 summons, 13 order of protections, 11 evictions and 67 criminal subpoenas. A total of 237 warrants were processed, including 63 new warrants received and 174 warrants that were closed or executed. Of the new warrants received, 18 were executed on the same day they were received from a court. Several old warrants were purged from the system after working with the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office.



Sheriff Investigator’s continue to process pistol permit applications, and report that so far this year, 119 pistol permit investigations have been completed.

Sheriff deputies worked special traffic enforcement details in both the towns of Geneva & Victor. In Geneva they issued a total of 23 tickets, including 9 speeding tickets. In Victor they issued a total of 45 tickets during the month to include 36 speeding tickets.

A total of 161 inmates were booked into the county jail, including 110 males and 51 females. And there were 70 people processed by the jail and released pending further action. There were 115 transports and 9603 miles driven by correction officers during the month. Sgt. Trevor Sergeant attended the National Jail Leadership Command Academy at Sam Houston University in Texas from March 5 to 10. The Sheriff’s Honor Guard, lead by Sgt. Charles Tomes, posted the colors at the annual traffic safety council luncheon March 1 at the Geneva Ramada Inn.
