Deputies: Drunk driver had child in vehicle during accident, now charged

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Lyons man following a drunk driving crash, where deputies say a 9-year-old child was a passenger.

Pearlie L. Petty, of Lyons was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandrea’s Law, as well as driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with a number of vehicle and traffic violations.

Deputies say the Leandra’s Law infraction is a felony.



This arrest stems from a personal injury accident that occurred in the Town of Galen on February 10th.

At the time of the accident Petty was intoxicated with a BAC of 0.12 percent and had a 9-year-old child was in the vehicle.

Petty was arraigned in the Town of Galen Court by Honorable Judge Heald and was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear back in court at a later date.
