Deputies: Hopewell blaze set by juvenile, home is ‘total loss’ (video)

One completely destroyed home, five individuals who narrowly escaped injury, and an active investigation. Those are the components of a structure fire on Route 488 in Hopewell, which was reported on Thursday afternoon around 1:40 p.m.

Videos from the scene shows flames engulfing a single-story home, as well as a small shed.

Deputies say that the home was a total loss.

Members of the Hopewell, Shortsville, Clifton Springs and Seneca Castle fire departments responded to the scene. Canandaigua Ambulance also responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a juvenile set a fire in the bathroom, which led to it spreading to the remainder of the house.

The investigation continues and involves the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, according to officials.
