Police investigate armed robbery at Canandaigua jewelry store

Police say a suspect who displayed a firearm at Canandaigua Jewelry and Coin Exchange is being sought by authorities.

Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth said someone called 911 to report an armed robbery at 232 S. Main St. and reported that a shop employee was the victim.

There weren’t any injuries, and the prevailing information from law enforcement suggests that the suspect was out of the area completely.

No details were given about the robbery. The value or amount of items stolen from the scene were not released.

“It’s an active investigation,” said Hedworth. He added that since the suspect “was armed at the scene” it is likely the person still has a firearm and people should “be cautious.”

Anyone with information is urged to call (585) 396-5033 to report.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
