Police: Auburn man arrested for attacking woman with box cutter

An Auburn man has been charged with multiple felonies for assaulting his girlfriend with a box cutter, the Auburn Police Department said.

John Hook, 58, of 7 Washington St., was arrested early Monday morning following a domestic dispute at his girlfriend's apartment.

According to Deputy Police Chief Roger Anthony, at around 12:30 a.m., officers were called to Murphy Apartments at 191 Genesee St. Upon arrival, he said, officers discovered Hook had attacked a 46-year-old woman with a utility knife.

Reading from the victim's statement, Anthony said Hook had threatened to kill the woman and proceeded to slice her head with a box cutter. At that time, the victim pushed Hook away and ran next door to call police. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.
