LATEST: Geneva man remains ‘critical’ after Easter shooting

A Geneva man underwent life-threatening surgery and remains in critical condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after a shooting on Lewis Street between Genesee and North Main streets. The shooting took place on Easter Sunday.

Police were called on Sunday at 6:57 a.m. to that area for the report of a vehicle into a tree. When police arrived they located the operator – identified as Michael Cosentino, 29, of Geneva, who had been shot multiple times in the head.

He was transported to Geneva General Hospital, then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition.

Two Geneva residents were arrested and are being held on $50,000 bail after the shooting.

Erin E. Rhynes, 26, and Timetheus D. Merritt, 26, both of Geneva were charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon respectively.

Additional charges are pending, according to police who say the investigation is ongoing.
