IJC responded to Gov. Cuomo’s fears about Lake Ontario flooding

The agency that monitors Lake Ontario’s water level is responding to calls from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo asked the International Joint Commission (IJC) to release as much water as possible to prevent flooding.

While the IJC said that members are considering the request, given the current conditions, a spokesperson said on Friday, in part:

“The outflow is the highest flow that can be sustained without posing a risk to navigation in the seaway.”

Meanwhile, people living along the lake are still waiting for money to complete repairs due to 2017 flooding.

On Friday, New York State Senator Joe Robach said that an additional $40 million from this year’s budget will go to the Lake Ontario flood relief and recovery grant program.
