Former Town Board member Thomas Ruzicka switched lawyers Friday and disposition of his second-degree harassment charge was delayed to April 27 in Waterloo Town Court.
Ruzicka, a Republican who served on the board in 2017, had been represented by Rome Canzano in prior proceedings. But Canzano told Town Justice Christopher Folk Friday that Ruzicka has hired Thomas Wolff to replace him.
The switch was put on the record and Canzano turned over his files to Wolff. Wolff asked for an adjournment to review the file and case. Folk set the new date for 8:30 a.m. April 27.
Ruzicka was arrested in connection with a May 5, 2017, altercation with fellow board member David DeLelys at a downtown Seneca Falls restaurant following a contentious board meeting. He is charged with grabbing DeLelys by the shirt as he was walking by him, pulling it upward and yelling at him before they were separated.
The board meeting that day included a contentious vote to adopt Local Law 2 of 2017, which rescinded a 2016 local law that would have closed Seneca Meadows Landfill by Dec. 31, 2025. DeLelys voted against rescinding the law, while Ruzicka voted for it. The local law passed, 3-2.
