The Auburn Police Department and New York State Police were called to Walmart Friday afternoon after a customer reported seeing men with rifles in the store's parking lot, but police said it appeared to be a false alarm.
According to Cayuga County 911, at around 1:25 p.m., a Walmart employee called police after a customer said there were two men wearing masks and holding rifles in a vehicle outside the store. The employee allegedly told dispatchers that the customer had called the store to notify management of a potential threat.
Auburn Deputy Police Chief Roger Anthony said the APD and state police investigated the incident. He said officers surrounded the vehicle in question and quickly determined there was no credible threat. Anthony said officers now believe it was a false report.
