During the first quarter of 2018, Cayuga County as a whole has collected over $8 million in sales tax, which is an increase from sales tax collection during the same period in 2017.
According to the latest monthly sales tax report from the Cayuga County Treasurer's Office, Cayuga County and all the municipalities within have seen a 7.26-percent increase in sales tax revenue during the first three months of 2018 compared with the same quarter a year ago.
So far in 2018, the city of Auburn has collected over $1.6 million in sales tax, which is a 7.7-percent increase from 2017. The city had experienced a slight drop in sales tax revenue last year, ending the year with a 0.6-percent decrease in collection. Auburn only receives sales tax from purchases made in the city, due to a preemption policy adopted by the city in the 1990s.
