A special meeting was called in the village of Weedsport on Thursday “to discuss a specific employee’s employment status/discipline,” a meeting notice online and hung on the village’s door read.
When the meeting opened at 4:30 p.m., the village board immediately moved to enter an executive session. Attorney Colin Leonard, of Bond, Schoeneck & King, was present in the executive session.
Mayor Jean Saroodis was not present at the meeting, as the village trustees passed a resolution, prepared by Leonard, on Monday which precluded her from conversations involving “an individual employed in the position of DPW Superintendent due to a conflict of interest.”
The conflict of interest refers to Mayor Saroodis’ son, James Saroodis, being employed as the Department of Public Works superintendent. James Saroodis is currently on administrative leave until a decision can be made about his employment.
