One of the city’s most beloved business owners was honored last week by the Geneva Business Improvement District.
Rafael Diaz Diaz, owner of El Morro Catering and Restaurant on Exchange Street, received the Community Service Award during BID’s annual dinner on Thursday at the Geneva Ramada.
Diaz Diaz is not only a long-time downtown business owner but also a community leader, noted Yvette Ortiz, owner of Earthly Possessions on Seneca Street. At the dinner, she provided a summary of his contributions to the city and to his native Puerto Rico that was read by BID Executive Director Mark Palmieri.
She said Diaz Diaz started El Morro Catering and Restaurant “not only because of his love of cooking authentic Puerto Rican cuisine but to introduce the food to Geneva and its surrounding communities.”
