Downtown Waterloo businesses get MAP grants

Four downtown business owners have been selected to receive Microenterprise Assistance Program grants.

The second-round grant winners are:

• Marty Colegrove of Coach’s Diner at 19 W. Main St. He received $35,000 for new equipment and working capital.

• Tammy Hobby of the Corner Deli and Bakery at 1 E. Main St. She was awarded $27,500 to start a new business.

• Jackie Vrooman of Miss V’s at 14 E. Main St.. She received $20,000 to expand her food offerings by purchasing more equipment.

• Stacy Slike of Sheer Bliss Salon at 27 N. Virginia St.. She got $10,000 for equipment, working capital and inventory expansion.

The state provides MAP grants to municipalities that submit applications. Waterloo was awarded a $200,000 grant in 2016 to cover the period that ends Dec. 31, 2018.
