Steuben County woman run over, killed by her own car

State Police said a woman from Canisteo was killed after being run over by her own car Tuesday evening.

Troopers were called to the intersection of Fall Creek Rd. and Bearlick Hollow Rd. in the town of Hartsville around 5:50 p.m.

A passing delivery service driver told troopers that a woman was found trapped underneath the driver’s side of the vehicle. EMTs worked with neighbors to move the vehicle and get the woman out from underneath the vehicle.

The woman, later identified as 75-year-old Bonnie Kraft, was taken to St. James Mercy Hospital by ambulance. She was pronounced dead there less than an hour later.

Investigators later determined Kraft had stopped at her mailbox to pick up her mail. When she got out of her car, police believe she put her vehicle in reverse instead of park and got out of the vehicle. Kraft was then knocked to the ground and pinned by the rolling vehicle.
