A vacant downtown Auburn building is now home to a new cellphone provider — metroPCS.
The store, located at 11 E. Genesee St., opened Monday, owner Mickey Khatib said. The retail space was previously occupied by a photography studio and a Christmas pop-up shop.
MetroPCS was founded in 1994. In 2013, it merged with T-Mobile. The company offers nationwide talk, text and data plans with no contracts. Both metroPCS and T-Mobile won the J. D. Power award for customer care in 2018 in their respective categories.
Khatib, who owns several other metroPCS stores in the central New York area, said he chose to open a new store in Auburn because it is a "thriving city."
