Construction of the downtown Auburn portion of the Owasco River Greenway Trail will finish up this summer.
The project, which involves installing pedestrian and bicycle paths along city-owned land to create a 12-mile path along the Owasco River from Emerson Park to Wadsworth Park, has been in the works since 2012. The first phase, which is one of five, is a two-mile stretch from State Street to Mill Street.
Construction was originally expected to begin in the summer of 2016, however, crews did not start work on the project until September 2017. Work was delayed due to environmental concerns with an endangered species — the Indiana bat. Those concerns have since been addressed.
Paul Tennity, a resident engineer with Popli Design Group, said the first phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.
