A vacant and partly demolished Linden Street property appears destined for more demo.
The question, it seems, is how far the demolition of the long-vacant building at 29 Linden St. will go?
Building owner Calvin Ruthven’s plan to redevelop the property are similar to the building’s current condition: It’s fallen apart.
Instead of a reuse of the building that Ruthven convinced city officials he could pull off in 2016 by actually tearing some of it down, it appears the best hope is to maintain the facade of the building.
Some Council members said that whatever happens, they don’t want a smaller version of 305 Main St., where a longtime service station with a unique curved designed fell into disrepair and was removed in 2011, leaving a large swath of vacant hillside land that remains to this day. Some wanted to at least save the facade, but City Council ultimately opted for demo.
