Geneva City Council puts limit on Linden closures

Instead of taking a leap forward for 2018 when it comes to Linden Street closures, City Council decided it was best to take a step back — to 2017.

A proposal to add Sundays to the Linden Street closings this summer was nixed by City Council Wednesday evening.

Instead, Council chose to keep the schedule in place in 2017 that calls for Sunday street closures only when events are going on. A similar discussion took place in 2017.

The move on Wednesday was pushed by Sixth Ward Councilor John Greco.

“I can’t understand closing all day-long on Sunday” when nothing is happening, he said.

Acting City Manager Sage Gerling said Linden Street businesses are hoping to create more brunch opportunities that are expected to include street dining.

The group also is hiring a part-time person whose job would include creating more Sunday events.
