State Sen. John DeFrancisco is facing a serious challenge in his bid for New York governor by an opponent who has yet to formally announce his candidacy.
State Sen. Marc Molinaro, from Dutchess County, told New York Republican Party leaders on Wednesday he’s running for the Republican nomination but hasn’t indicated when his bid to unseat Gov. Andrew Cuomo could become official. This comes after Molinaro received 55 out of 83 votes in a straw poll last week at a Republican State Committee meeting in Saratoga Springs, beating out state Sen. DeFrancisco, from DeWitt, who won 23 votes.
Since then, the Dutchess County executive has been racking up endorsements from GOP county committee chairs across the state.
