Ontario man charged with felony DWI after traffic stop in Wayne County

Troopers say an Ontario man was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated — on a felony charge — following a traffic stop on Lakeside Road on Tuesday.

Christopher J. Smith, 56, of Ontario was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and inadequate tail lights.

He was placed under arrest after failing multiple standard field sobriety tests.  Smith was transported to SP Williamson for processing where he refused to submit to a breath test.

Police say Smith had a previous DWI conviction in the last 10 years.

Arraignment took place in Ontario Town Court and Smith was released. The charges will be answered at a later date.
