The Clyde-Savannah Golden Eagles are the last men standing in the Wayne-Finger Lakes as they defeated Prattsburgh 76-69 in Penn Yan on Wednesday night in the Section V Class D State Qualifier. Clyde led by just 1 point at halftime and the game was tied in after three quarters. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead in the final period to punch their ticket to the Far West Regional game of the NYSPHSAA at Buffalo State on Saturday at noon where they will meet the Section VI Class D representative Buffalo East.

Marcus Chance led the charge with 28 points while fellow seniors Derrick Chance and Dru Carnevale finished with 19 and 16 points respectively. Clyde-Savannah improves to 21-4 on the season and enter the state tournament with a Wayne County League Title and a Sectional Championship. With a win on Saturday, C-S would advance to the NYS Class D Final Four in Binghamton.

CLASS A STATE QUALIFIER:
The Section V Class A2 and Finger Lakes East champion Wayne Eagles were overmatched from the start in their game against the Class A1 champion Irondequoit Eagles on Wednesday night at Rush-Henrietta High School. Irondequoit exploded out of the gates to open up a 20-4 lead after the first quarter and they never looked back on the way to a 69-41 victory and a trip to Buffalo State and the NYSPHSAA Far West Regional Class A game on Saturday.
Patrick Thomas led Irondequoit with 17 points and 9 rebounds will Gerald Drumgoole scored 12 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.

For Wayne, junior Nick Carmichael scored 13 points but could only manage 4 rebounds while Braeden Zenelovic scored 8 points in his final game in a Wayne uniform.
Irondequoit out rebounded Wayne 50-20 and held the Eagles to just 32% shooting from the field. Meanwhile, Irondequoit shot 48% from the field and scored 33 second chance points.

CLASS C STATE QUALIFIER:
The Lyons varsity boys basketball team captured their school’s 18th Sectional Championship on Monday night in Class C2 and just 2 nights later found themselves on the court at Rush-Henrietta in the Class C state Play-In Game against Section V’s Class C1 winners Northstar Christian. Northstar was coming off their fourth straight Sectional title across multiple classifications as a private school that is placed annually by the Section V Competition Committee.
The Knights jumped out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to double-digits early in the 2nd quarter. Lyons made a pair of runs to get the deficit close to single digits but Northstar answered each Lyons challenge with a run of their own to ultimately extend the lead and record an 85-63 win and secure a second straight trip to the NYSPHSAA Class C Far West Regional Game.

Northstar was led by junior standout Miles Brown who scored 26 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the field and 8 of ten shooting from the line. Miles’ bother Michael dished out 13 assists while scoring 12 points and recording 6 rebounds. Daniel Pickett added 15 and Knights head coach J.J. Garwood’s son, 8th grader Ryan Garwood, scored 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting from long range.

Section V Class C2 Tournament MVP, junior Justice Smith led all scorers with 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Smith was tagged with a technical foul in the second quarter after making a corner three in front of the Northstar bench and turning towards the bench to celebrate. The three pointer was part of a 5-0 Lyons run that cut the lead to 11. After referee Joe B. Knapp called the technical, NS was able to build the lead back to 14 by halftime.
Kerel Kelly scored 10 and freshman Justin Smith scored 9 points while handing out 4 assists. Senior Jordan Harris had 8 rebounds in his final game in a Lyons uniform.
