“It seems like only yesterday” say some of the cast members of Moon Over Buffalo which Seneca Community Players performed 20 years ago on stage in the Delavan Theater. The play, won nine roving adjudicator awards from the Theatre Association of New York State – TANYS, and as a result was chosen to be in competition during the TANYS Festival in November of 1997. Winning numerous People’s Choice awards at the Festival, the play also won Best Long Production, Best Actor – Male and Female, and Stage Crew/Production Team awards.
Directed by Walter Wolf, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s, currently performing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in repertory in Buffalo. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s affair with a young actress, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong in this extremely funny show.
SCP’s 1997 cast included: John King, Pam Bryan, Jeff Harvey, Nina Belle, Patrick Fegley, Pam Rapoza, Steve Mitchell and Roxanne Stevens. Also participating in the show were Kathy Hadley, Karl Nies, RJ Rapoza, Aaron Isaacs, Carol Millis, Troy and Bryce Corsner, Kris Jasper, Jennifer Mitchell, Ralph Sinicropi & Kristi Levis.
Moon Over Buffalo, SCP’s 1997 video, will be shown on Sunday, March 11 in the Seneca Falls Library at 3pm. Walter Wolf will be honored for his many contributions to Seneca Community Players over the years as both director and actor.
