Hopewell crash sends three to area hospitals on Sunday

Three people were sent to area hospitals after a two-car crash in Hopewell over the weekend. The accident happened on Sunday around 12:23 p.m.

Deputies say Kelly Pielow, 62, of Penn Yan started into traffic from a stop sign at the intersection of Smith Road and County Road 4 — traveling north — when she was struck by a vehicle traveling west on County Road 4.

That vehicle was operated by 62-year-old Phillip Yautzy, of Stanley, who had two passengers. Deputies say an 84-year-old passenger in that vehicle had to be transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via Canandaigua Ambulance for treatment of chest pain.

The driver, as well as a second passenger in the Yautzy vehicle, were both transported to Clifton Springs Hospital with minor injuries.

Pillow was not injured, but deputies say was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

The Hopewell Fire Department assisted at the scene.
