An Auburn man released from state prison less than four months ago for a bloody 2011 burglary was charged Wednesday with committing a similar crime.
Police said Caleb A. Pilkenton, 26, was one of two men who bound and assaulted a homeowner during a robbery in Sterling Wednesday.
Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office had found a suspicious unoccupied car on Viele Road near the Cayuga County border Wednesday afternoon, police said, and the engine had been left running.
Police said that while checking the area, officers saw two men running from a house on Craine Road in Sterling while carrying items taken from the home. Both men ran into a wooded area, police said. Patrols established a perimeter around the area and officers took both men into custody without incident.
