Geneva duo looks to revive Hall Diner

A Geneva duo has plans to reopen a venerable eatery in this town of Seneca hamlet, and they’re looking for a little help from the public to make it happen.

Dan Bullock said he and Tamarie Cataldo are expecting to reopen the Hall Diner in March. The restaurant, which had opened its doors for a spell last year under former manager Blaine Mortensen, has been empty for months.

Bullock, who works as a chef at a couple of area restaurants, including Grist Iron Brewery Co. in Schuyler County, said he doesn’t know why the diner closed but believes it had to do with a lack of help. His business partner and friend, Cataldo, worked at Rio Tomatlán in Canandaigua for a decade.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Cataldo was a Democratic candidate in November for the Ontario County Board of Supervisors representing Geneva, narrowly losing to incumbent Republican Gregory Bendzlowicz.
