Longtime Farmington hotel/banquet site transformed

It opened in 1962 as a high-end hotel with a spectacular view on a hill just off the Thruway.

But its more recent history was not so glorious.

The former Trenholm East — which took on a multitude of names and owners over the past couple of decades — had fallen into disrepair by the time a group of owners took title to the hotel and events site more than a year ago.

Owner John Barry, one of four partners in what is now called the Finger Lakes Hotel on Loomis Road, just off Route 332, recalled that the list of needed repairs and improvements was so long that he and the other partners — Joe Prestigiacomo and his son Angelo, and Alecia Stephenson — put up a white board, checking off the items as work progressed.

He figured it had about 350 to 360 items on it when they started and plenty of projects remain for the owners, who began managing the facility for a time before purchasing it from the previous owner a couple of years ago.

“It needed a lot of work,” Stephenson said. “It still needs a lot of work, but we’re getting there.”

“All the heavy lifting is done,” added Barry.
