In an effort to encourage more recycling, town officials have changed some things at the transfer station on White Springs Road.
Including the name.
Now called the recycling and disposal station, the site at 32 White Springs Road will still be open Wednesdays and Saturdays. However, town Supervisor Mark Venuti said some changes are being implemented to encourage conservation and sustainable living.
“We’ve been working on this for quite a while as part of our sustainability and solid waste management plan. We are now calling it the recycling and disposal station because we do more recycling than disposing,” he said. “We are trying to get people to be a little more conscious about what they are sending to the landfill.”
The station is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. It is available to town residents for residential materials — not commercial- or business-generated items.
