Over the next two to three years, Rite Aid customers can expect some big changes as Walgreens and Albertsons take over three Auburn stores.
According to Rite Aid spokesperson Ashley Flower, two Genesee Street locations — 47 E. Genesee St. and 314 Genesee St. — have been purchased by Walgreens Boots Alliance, which reached a deal to buy nearly 2,000 Rite Aid locations last September. The ownership transitioned last week, meaning the Auburn stores are now officially owned and operated by Walgreens.
Meanwhile, a third location at 153 Grant Ave. is preparing to become part of Albertsons Cos., a supermarket chain founded and headquartered in Idaho. While the Grant Avenue store remains owned by Rite Aid today, Flower said it will eventually become part of Albertsons.
