Spectrum to drop WSKG in Tompkins, Cortland

Throughout the years, WSKG-TV has shown numerous programs including "NOVA: Making North America," "American Experience," news programs like "Frontline," musical programs like "Expressions," and it's most popular locally produced show, "Let's Polka!"

Now, it looks like WSKG-TV will be having it's last polka in Tompkins and Cortland counties. WSKG announced Spectrum plans to drop the TV station in the Ithaca and Cortland areas in the coming weeks.

“Spectrum Cable has the right to do this, but we think it’s wrong. Spectrum can continue to carry WSKG-TV in Tompkins and Cortland counties if it chooses, but has chosen not to," said Greg Catlin, WSKG President and CEO. "Spectrum calls it a business decision. We call it unfortunate.”

An exact date for when Spectrum is cutting WSKG has not been determined, according to a news release from WSKG.

WSKG is being cut from Spectrum Cable the year after the cable company dropped WENY.

Catlin said he found out about Spectrum's decision to drop WSKG-TV about a week-and-a-half ago and predicts WSKG will no longer be on Tompkins and Cortland TVs in March.
