Lyons man received over $1K in public assistance illegally

Last week investigators with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 22-year-old Lyons resident for failing to report income, which resulted in unearned social services benefits.

Jonathon David Jones, 22, of Lyons was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny after an investigation revealed that while receiving social service benefits — he failed to report two separate employments to the Department of Social Services in Ontario County.

The unreported income between July 1st, 2016 and October 31st, 2016 resulted in an overpayment of $1,366 in public assistance that he was not entitled to receive.

Jones was issued an appearance ticket for Hopewell Town Court to answer the charge.
