The Auburn Police Department responded to more parking violations and school incidents last month.
According to a monthly activity report, police received 63 more calls for service (total 2,838) and issued 285 more parking tickets (total 846) in January. Auburn Deputy Police Chief Roger Anthony said the increase was likely due to "inclement weather," as the city saw several snowstorms last month. During heavy snow, he said police often receive more calls from the Department of Public Works, notifying officers of vehicles parked on the wrong side of the road.
In addition, the department handled 42 more incidents in and around school property (total 161). Three juveniles were arrested concerning school-related incidents, but Anthony said no one was criminally charged.
