Despite Bloomfield’s big win over the South Seneca Lady Falcons on Friday night, the Lady Bombers still aren’t able to claim sole possession of the Finger Lakes West title. The Romulus Lady Warriors played spoiler on Saturday afternoon in the Tony Alvaro Gymnasium, overcoming a 34 point, 24 rebound effort from Braelin Scott, to defeat Bloomfield in double-overtime. Meanwhile, South Seneca bounced back to defeat HAC in Ovid 57-44. South Seneca sits just 1 game behind Bloomfield in the league standings. It does appear likely, however, that the Bombers will clinch sole possession of the championship as their final game is at Dundee on Tuesday. The Lady Scots are winless on the season. South Seneca will host Marcus Whitman on Tuesday to wrap up their regular season slate.
On the boys side, a rematch of last season’s Section V Class A state qualifier was played on Saturday. The Wayne Eagles hosted the Irondequoit Eagles and hung tough with class A1’s top team, trailing 31-30 at halftime. Irondequoit would pull away in the second half, however, coming away with a 60-50 win. Logan Blankenberg led Wayne with 20 points, Braeden Zenelovic scored 13 and Billy Thompson had 7 points and 7 assists. Irondequoit was led by 28 from Gerald Drumgoole, 22 of the 28 came in the first half.
