Cayuga County-area high school graduation rates largely down from last year

Graduation rates for most Cayuga County-area high schools dropped from last year, according to data released by the state education department Wednesday.

The department laid out the high school graduation rates for each district in the state. Out of nine Cayuga County-area districts, only three high schools — Auburn, Skaneateles and Southern Cayuga — saw bumps in their numbers from June 2016 to June 2017.

Auburn High School experienced the biggest hike, from 71 percent of the class graduating in June 2016 to 80 percent in June 2017. A total of 260 Auburn students received their diplomas out of 327 seniors in June 2017, while 239 out of 335 students graduated in June 2016. Auburn High School has the largest graduating class by far out of the Cayuga County-area district high schools, with Skaneateles High School coming the closest with 126 students graduating in June 2017.
