Sheriff: Wolcott man received over $4,000 in benefits illegally

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Welfare Fraud Unit reports the arrest of a Wolcott man on multiple charges following the completion of a social services investigation.

Noel J. Stevens, 45, was arrested after an investigation was initiated by the Wayne County Department of Social Services.

It is alleged that Stevens provided false information about his household income in order to obtain welfare benefits. Stevens failed to report all income to the Wayne County Department of Social Services, which is required by the rules and regulations of the program.

His failure to report all income in the household allowed him to collect SNAP (Food Stamp) and Public assistance benefits totaling $4032, which he would not have been entitled to receive.

He was charged with third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud, and offering a false instrument for filing.

Stevens was arrested and arraigned in front of the Huron Town Justice and was released to appear at a later date to answer the charges.
