U.S. Rep. John Katko is safe after an Amtrak train transporting members of Congress to a retreat collided with a garbage truck in rural Virginia Wednesday.
Erin O’Connor, Katko’s spokesperson, said she spoke to the congressman after the crash and he wasn’t hurt. Other members of Congress have tweeted that they are safe.
The status of the passengers in the garbage truck is unknown.
The train was traveling to West Virginia. Congressional Republicans will hold a two-day retreat to discuss their 2018 legislative agenda.
