UPDATE: Canandaigua man charged with arson after setting West Bloomfield fire

In another update on Thursday, investigators in Ontario County have arrested a 20-year-old Canandaigua man on arson charges following a West Bloomfield fire.

Joseph P. Conlon, 20, was charged with fourth-degree arson and arraigned in Richmond Town Court. He was remanded to the Ontario County Jail after arraignment.

Investigators say Conlon started the fire to damage the structure. The cause was determined after an investigation and interview with Conlon.

Update #1 – Thursday AM

In an update form the West Bloomfield Fire Department, officials have shed a little more light on a structure fire that was reported on Wednesday around 2:07 pm at 3381 Lefevre Road.

West Bloomfield Fire Chief Gary Lewis says a family member discovered smoke in the house and called 911.

The first firefighters on-scene reported a smoke condition on the second floor and requested assistance from neighboring fire departments.

The West Bloomfield Fire Department was assisted by the Ionia, Bristol and East Bloomfield-Holcomb fire departments, as well as Honeoye Falls Ambulance.

The fire was placed under control a little more than 30 minutes later at 2:46 pm, according to Lewis.

The damage was limited to the room of origin with water damage to both floors of the two-story residential structure. The occupants were not displaced by the fire, according to Lewis, who says that the structure is insured.

The fire remains under investigation by the Ontario County Fire Coordinator and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department. Initial results of the original and cause investigation indicate that the fire started within a bedroom unit on the second floor.
