The Wayne Eagles didn’t have much time to savor their 41-38 win over Mynderse on Wednesday night. After arriving back in Ontario after 10 pm they would turn around in about 16 hours and hop back on a school bus to make the long drive south to Romulus where they would face fellow Class A2 Finger Lakes East league-mate Geneva.
The Eagles (9-1) showed a bit of fatigue in the first half but took a 25-21 lead into halftime against the Panthers (4-9). They got their second wind in the second half and eventually pulled away from Geneva for a 60-46 win to stay undefeated in league play.
Wayne was led by 21 points from Nich Carmichael, 14 from Jaiden Burlee and 11 from Logan Blankenberg. Carmichael was 9-11 from the free throw line. The Eagles up their season mark to 10-1 and remain atop the Finger Lakes East standings at 7-0.
Geneva’s leading scorer was Nick Askin with 12 points on 3 three-pointers. Reid Patchett scored 10 and Akim Hudson had 8 points, all in the first half. Geneva falls to 4-10.
