Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick is standing firm on a sanctuary city ordinance unanimously approved by the city’s Common Council last February despite the Department of Justice exploring charges against politicians who support immigration sanctuary policies.
“Look, they’ll have to put me under the jail. I was elected by the people of Ithaca and President Trump’s stances on immigration are counter to our values,” Myrick said in a Facebook post. “The federal government is bent on conducting crackdowns that create fear of local law enforcement, hurt working people, and are grounded in old school xenophobia.
