Professional angler holds ice fishing seminar in Aurelius

Professional angler Tim Thomas said that instead of groaning when he first heard central New York’s current frigid weather was coming, he was excited by the ice fishing possibilities.

Thomas, who is sponsored by by various fishing equipment companies, showed some tips and tricks at an ice fishing seminar at Bass Pro Shops at the Fingerlakes Mall in Aurelius Saturday. He said this season has been fantastic for ice fishing, noting that Oneida Lake has been having the best season for perch he has ever seen. He said he focuses on trying to snag his aquatic prey, no matter if the temperature has plunged below zero or not.

“It’s the hunt, the drive to get these big fish,” Thomas said.
