Absent supervisors doom Seneca County local law giving raises

Money for raises for the 14-member Seneca County Board of Supervisors and 10 appointed and elected officials is in the 2018 county budget.

But none of those raises will go into effect Jan. 1.

A local law to authorize the raises was approved by the board’s Finance, Assessment & Insurance Committee, amended once and drew no public comment at a Nov. 14 public hearing. It came before the full board in special session Tuesday, but failed for lack of the necessary 375 weighted votes needed for approval.

Five of the board’s 14 supervisors were absent Tuesday. Another, Bob Hayssen, R-Varick, left after a vote on a different issue didn’t go his way.
