One of downtown’s longest operating retail businesses will close at the end of the month.
Tally-Ho Trading Post, at 8 W. Main St., was established by the late Bob Main. It sold outdoor and work clothing, Western apparel and work footwear. It was a major Carhartt clothing dealer for many years.
After Main died, his son, Scott, took over the store.
Longtime employee Anna Lathrop said Scott Main tried to sell the business but found no interested buyers. She said the growth of online purchasing was a big factor in the store’s declining walk-in business.
The store is offering as much as 80 percent off its remaining inventory. The building will be sold, Lathrop said.
“It’s sad,” Lathrop said. “We’ve been a mainstay downtown for many years. I will probably retire, and Scott plans to move back to his hometown in Pennsylvania.”
