Clyde-Savannah & ER open with league wins; Red Jacket deals South Seneca girls first loss (W-FL round-up 12/5)

Clyde-Savannah opened up their season and their Wayne County league slate with a convincing 80-45 win over Red Creek. Also hitting the court for the first time, East Rochester hosted Sodus and sent the Spartans packing with a 53-39 win behind 17 points and 20 rebounds from John Lexer. Also in Wayne County boys action, Marion won their second straight game to start the season 2-0, defeating North Rose-Wolcott 63-50 in Coach Brian Hoyt’s return to the Cougars bench.

Clyde-Savannah is in action again on Thursday for a key early season league match-up with Gananda in a game that can be heard live on FingerLakes1.com Radio and re-streamed at 11:00 pm with full video on FL1 Sports. Jim Sinicropi and Kevin Sharp will have the call.

Three Finger Lakes East teams were also in action on Tuesday night in three out-of-league contests. Penn Yan doubled-up Attica 80-40 on the road, Pal-Mac beat Vertus 52-40, and the Newark Reds fell to 0-3 after losing at home to Webster-Thomas 45-35. Taylor Clements had 15 points and 14 rebounds, De’Andre Saunders pulled down 12 rebounds and Logan Moynihan scored 8 points on a pair of three-pointers in the loss.

Newark will look for their first win when they host Mynderse on Friday night at 7:30 in a rematch of last season’s Class B Sectional Championship game won by the Blue Devils. In girls varsity action on Tuesday night…

The Red Jacket Indians shook-up the Finger Lakes West by defeating the two-time defending league champion South Seneca Falcons, 55-44, in Shortsville. Sara VanAken led the Lady Indians with 16 points. Sydney Close added 13 and Brookelyn Hanley scored 7 points. For South Seneca, Emma Fletcher had 15, Logan Shaulis scored 9 points to go along with 9 rebounds and Skylar Shaulis grabbed 10 rebounds in the Lady Falcons first FL West loss in over 2 years.

Also in the FL West…

Adelaide Flood’s 12 points weren’t enough to lift HAC over Bloomfield as the Lady Bombers prevailed in the Bomber Barn, 53-28.

The Naples Big Green edged Marcus Whitman 51-38. Sarah Glovine had 18 points and 6 rebounds, Haylea Langan scored 15 points with 15 rebounds, and Faith Glovine added 8 points with 8 rebounds for Naples. Emily Thompson scored 17 points and Jordyn Chappelle scored 10 for the Lady Wildcats.

Honeoye hosted Dundee and beat the Lady Scots easily, 51-30. Kali Pestle scored 14, Caitlin Jarosinski scored 10 and Hannah Reynolds had 9 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Romulus Warriors started their season 2-0 after winning at Hammondsport 56-30.

Four Finger Lakes East girls varsity teams were in action in out-of-league contests and just Midlakes was victorious defeating Livonia 60-38.

Mynderse hosted Class AA Bishop Kearney and dropped a 64-48 decision. Saniaa Wilson led BK with 18 points. For Mynderse, senior Heidi Miller recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mary Doell and Hannah Lang each scored 8 points in the loss. Mynderse falls to 0-2 and opens league play at home against Newark on Friday night.

Pal-Mac lost at Aquinas, 60-42 and Wayne was steamrolled by Webster-Thomas, 64-24.
