Syracuse chancellor: Proposed tax bill could hurt Carrier Dome renovation, athletics

In a letter sent to U.S. Rep. John Katko, Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud outlined several ways a House tax-cut proposal hurts the school, including its athletics program.

The letter, dated Nov. 20, primarily focused on the harm to students, who would lose tax credits and deductions, and university employees, who would have some benefits taxed for the first time.

Syverud also noted the potential downside for Syracuse athletics and the “economic model that supports a bold Carrier Dome renovation.”
