New owners see potential of Finger Lakes Sausage & Beer

Mike Hofhine was part of the Midwest oil boom of a few years ago that made money for lots of people.

He also was there for the bust in recent years when the price of oil plummeted worldwide.

Hofhine took what money he had left from his oil industry work as a weld inspector and got into a line of business that also deals in black liquid: coffee.

He opened a coffee kiosk in Dickenson, N.D., and that’s where he met his partner in life and business, Delane Lenker, who was living in Washington state. She was visiting her three sons who were working in the oil industry in North Dakota when she happened to stop by his coffee kiosk.

The couple eventually came east, and last year took over a hot dog stand at Waterloo Premium Outlets, turning it into a popular spot for shoppers and store workers looking for coffee and food. The menu was expanded well beyond hot dogs.
