Hobart and William Smith Colleges gets $4 million from Bozzutos

Tom Bozzuto grew up in a working-class home, but his entrepreneurial drive, developed in part from his undergraduate studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, made him a very wealthy man.

Now the chairman of the HWS Board of Trustees, his wife and their family are hoping to encourage that entrepreneurial spirit with a multi-million-dollar donation to the Colleges

Bozzuto, a 1968 Hobart grad, and his wife, Barbara Bozzuto, are giving $3 million to what will now be called the Bozzuto Center for Entrepreneurship, which HWS officials said will provide “critical programming” and operational support for the Colleges’ most popular minor and fastest growing program of study.

“In the 21st century, success will come to people who know how to reinvent themselves throughout their careers,” said Bozzuto, chairman and co-founder of the Bozzuto Group, one of the largest real estate services companies in the country. “What the liberal arts teaches you to do, and what entrepreneurial studies reinforces, is the ability to think critically, to think independently and to be willing to take risks, both intellectually and practically.”
