Wayne County tax rate, levy dropping in 2018

Wayne County supervisors got an overview of 2018’s tentative budget Tuesday.

For county taxpayers, the news is good.

The county’s tax levy — the amount of money to be raised by taxes — and its tax rate are slated to drop in the coming year.

The budget totals $140.2 million for 2018, a $1.9 million increase over 2017. That reflects a 1.4 increase in spending, noted Ken Blake, the county’s fiscal assistant and deputy budget officer.

The tax levy of $38.8 million is a nearly $13,000 drop over the current year and stays under the allowable state tax cap increase for 2018 by about $1.2 million, Blake said.
