More than 600 participated in the 6th Annual Turkey Trot in Penn Yan at St. Michael School on Thanksgiving Day.
The event kicked off a long holiday weekend, which raised money for the St. Michael Catholic School. For more than 130 years St. Michael has been providing students in- and around Penn Yan with a faith-based education.
Registration began at 7:30 am with the adult race kicking off an hour later.
It was followed by a Kid Fun Run, which was called successful by organizers.
Adults ran 3.1 miles, equaling the typical 5K distance. The race started at St. Michael School, and headed toward Penn Yan Academy.
Runners continued down Court Street, over to Powell Lane, returning to the finish line at St. Michael School.
At the finish line, every child who participated received a medal.
Upon completion of the race, families and friends danced to the lively music of a local DJ. Onlookers enjoyed watching the event while keeping warm under patio heaters.
Those who participated in the Turkey Trot received a t-shirt commemorating the event.
The experience of this fundraiser offers a great opportunity to bring community members together while supporting a worthy cause.
