Cato predator sentenced to 57 years in prison after being found guilty

District Attorney Jon E. Budelmann reports that William H. Lewis, of Cato was sentenced in Cayuga County Court to 57 years to life following his verdict of guilty on all counts after a five day Jury trial in October.

Assistant District Attorney Heather De Stefano successfully prosecuted the case.

Lewis was sentenced on both counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, (class “A-II” felony) to twenty-five (25) years to Life, seven (7) years determinate prison followed by ten (10) years post-release supervision on the Sexual Abuse in the First Degree count (class “D” violent felony), and one year definite on the three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (class “A” misdemeanors).

The three young victims in this case bravely testified that this defendant, and only this defendant, molested them, repeatedly them for years and the Defendant admitted in a videotaped police interview that he had sexually abused these children for years, both inside and outside this County.

But following his arrest, faced with the reality of prison time, this defendant tried to back-track from his confession by pointing the finger at someone else, and blaming these three children, their mother, and the police. Since his initial confession, he has never shown any remorse, or apologized to his victims. Instead he said he was going to cut them off and throw out all of the young victim’s belongings. He has not sought help or asked for treatment.

At age 6, these three young girls should have been able to trust this defendant to protect them. They should have been playing with toys and watching cartoons. Instead, this defendant repeatedly molested them, used them to satisfy his needs; repeatedly putting his penis in their mouths and ejaculating, for years.
