Hopewell gets $1.96 million loan for water district

Nearly 80 people in this Ontario County town will be getting public water with the help of a $1.96 million federal loan.

The loan, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program, was announced Tuesday by Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. The funding will finance construction of water system upgrades in Hopewell and extend public water service to 79 residents in the town who do not have safe and potable water.

“This federal investment is good news for the town of Hopewell and Ontario County,” Schumer said in a press release. “These federal funds for the town of Hopewell will help boost economic development, protect public health and support critical water infrastructure upgrades.”

“This is an important investment for Ontario County,” added Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “These federal funds will help facilitate a critical project that will bring safe and reliable water to dozens of residents in the town of Hopewell and encourage economic development throughout the region.”
